Richland County Solid Waste Management knows the importance of teaching students about Recycling. We have a Third Grade Program that is offered to all third grade students in Richland County, Ohio. Our classroom activities meet the requirements of the Ohio Department of Education Standards in Science, Math and Social Studies. Our Education Specialist also works with 4-H Groups, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Pre-Schools, Home -School Students and students with disabilities.
The Richland County Solid Waste Management will reimburse the cost of one bus per classroom session (up to $100.00). The Third Grade Program includes a tour of the Rumpke Transfer Station and the Rumpke Noble Road Landfill.
The bus should arrive between 9:00 AM and 9:30 AM at our Recycling Collection Facility located at 1125 National Parkway (just south of US Route 30, past the BP Station on Trimble Rd). Our building is the last one on the left.
Don’t forget to have the students bring lunch because they will be eating in the Environmental Classroom (some leftovers are shared with the worms). The field trip ends after the tour of the transfer station or the landfill. However, some tours may not be requested and that’s okay too! Tours to the Transfer Station normally end about 1:30 PM and the Landfill tour ends around 2:00 PM.
If you can’t come to our Environmental Classroom maybe we can come to you! We believe in having fun while learning the three R’s: REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE. Please give our Education Specialist, Lori Stone, a call at 419-774-5861 (Monday through Friday 7:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.).
